Around the Horn: Tim Lincecum
February 12th, 2010 | by Ray Flowers |Tim Lincecum and the Giants agreed to a last minute deal to avoid arbitration as the two sides agreed to a 2-year deal worth $23 million. What are the ramifications of the deal for the Giants, Lincecum and baseball as a whole?

Nice work, Ray. I wonder what Lincecum is going to ask for 2 years from now…

Ray, you made your own argument when saying Verlander and King Felix have more experience in the league then Lincecum.
Both of these players were only a couple years away from completing six years in the majors, which is needed to file for free agency, that’s why they received longer, bigger contracts.
I think the union would be pleased with a contract like this for a player that is 3-4 years away from being able to file for free agency, a 11.5 million dollar a year contract set the bar pretty high for clubs wishing to avoid arbitration with players in a young career that will have less talent then Lincecum has.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the union pushed Lincecum into taking a contract like this.
