Around the Horn: January 25th, 2012
January 25th, 2012 | by Ray Flowers |YouTube has been a disaster today – really, ever since they merged with Google things haven’t worked right, at least for me. Eventually, there will be a video discussing the below topics – that is if I can ever get my video loaded up on YouTube.
(1) Prince Fielder to the Tigers. What are the implications for him and Miguel Cabrera?
(2) Wilson Betemit to the Orioles.
(3) Bartolo Colon to the A’s.
(4) Yoenis Cespedes ready to find a team.
(5) Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt searching for teams.

Ray how is the Fielder signing, if at all, going effect the Tigers 1-2 hitters Austin Jackson and Rayburn? It is not like Fielder is replacing an ineffective hitter in the line up. He has more power than v mart yes but v mart had a no so shabby 103 RBI’s and also does the Fielder signing hurt the tigers back of the line up guys such as Avila? No way fielder hit the .330 vmart did last year. I dont know the statistical rate but it seemed at least 40% of Avila’s RBI’s came from knocking in V mart.
When Is The Much Anticipated Ray Flowers Baseball Rankings going to be out???
Thanks Ray

Eric- Fielder/Cabrera are the top duo in baseball if healthy. Anyone hitting in spots 1-2 is going to score a ton of runs if they get on base. They likely won’t run much though – why would you with those two hitting 3-4? At same time, as you mentioned, Vmart was great last year hitting .394 with RISP. Fielder/Cabrera won’t better that. The top-2 guys are likely to see a few better pitches because of the power behind them, but there may not be a discernable difference.
The Draft Guide will be out next week with over 600 players ranked! Look for it then.
