BBGuys Partners With DailyJoust
April 1st, 2012 | by Ray Flowers |
It’s that time people. In the words of Michael Buffer, Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!
The 2012 baseball season is underway with the Athletics and Mariners playing baseball in Japan (a terrible decision in the opinion of this scribe), but the “real” start of the major league season comes next week when the Cardinals take on the Marlins on April 4th. However, that’s still a mere appetizer for the first full day of games in major league baseball for the 2012 season, and that’s April 5th. Let me tell you why that date should be important to you – and it’s not just because you’ll have a chance to play hookie all day watching baseball.
BaseballGuys.com and DailyJoust.com have partnered for the 2012 baseball season. What is DailyJoust? “Daily Joust is a fantasy sports web site that lets you pick a fantasy team any time you want and win real money [based] on its performance.”
If you’re a traditionalist maybe you like the grind of 162 games in 180 days. However, the trend these days it to more immediate gratification. You can get a feel for that in H2H leagues as you get your weekly results (a winner and loser each week), but DailyJoust takes things a step further – you can select a new team every day. You don’t have to worry about your fantasy season being sunk if Albert Pujols blows out his knee or Cliff Lee needs Tommy John surgery. The reason is that you can choose a new team every single day if you want to with DailyJoust. DailyJoust allows you to set a roster of players for a single day using a salary cap game (players are giving set values, and you construct your roster with players until your allotted dollar amount runs out). Don’t like how your team did the first time around? Well go ahead and switch out the whole roster if you want the next time you play. No longer are you merely tied to whether or not you made the right choices on draft day.
The best part? You can win money playing the game. Show your skills at putting together the best fantasy sports squad, and DailyJoust will reward you with cash prizes. How do you win cash? Again, you do it by putting together the best daily fantasy baseball team in a league with the following scoring system (it’s a points league for those of you who really love that setup).
Scoring Breakdown
Scoring for hitting (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, LF, CF, RF)
Total Bases (TB) = 1 pt for each base (Single = 1, Double = 2, Triple = 3, Home Run = 4)
Hit (H) = 1 pts
Run Scored (R) = 2 pts
Run Batted In (RBI) = 2 pts
Stolen Base (SB) = 2 pts
Walk (BB) = 1 pt
Hit By Pitch (HBP) = 1 pt
Sacrifice (SAC) = 1 pt
Strike Out (SO) = -1 pt
Grounded Into Double Play (GIDP) = -1 pt
Scoring for pitching (SP or P)
Inning Pitched (IP) = 1 pt for every 1/3 Inning Pitched (e.g. per out)
Strike Out (SO) = 1 pt
Earned Runs (ER) = -2 pts
Hit (H) = -1 pt
Walk (BB) = -1 pt
Hit Batsman (HBP) = -1 pt
Win (W) = 7 pts
I’d also like to draw special attention to the $250 Bonus Bucks Freeroll that is set to run on April 5th (located on the right hand side of the page underneat the BaseballGuys logo), that first day on the schedule with more than one game being played. Here is the payout breakdown for that Freeroll.
Top Prizes
1 – $50.00 BB
2 – $35.00 BB
3 – $30.00 BB
Don’t worry if you don’t finish in the top-3, the $250 Bonus Bucks Freeroll pays out all the way down to 16th spot, so you have plenty of chances to rack up some dough.
Obviously I’d suggest going to DailyJoust.com to get the ball rolling for 2012 for your Salary Cap experience. Get your Fantasy Baseball season off to a winning start.

Seager or Polanco as back-up 3B in 16-team mixed?
By Mike on Mar 29, 2012
Ray- In our league 12 team mixed we play sv+hd’s. Where can I find a bullpen depth chart to see who the setup guys are for each team. I saw Gregerson is projected to be a 7th inning guy.
By Ray Flowers on Mar 29, 2012
Jon – I’d take Polanco, but neither is going to move the needle.
By Ray Flowers on Mar 29, 2012
Mike – I’d worry less about roles, and more about skills when it comes to relievers. But if you want a depth chart – here’s a good place to look.

Hey Ray –
I know you wrote earlier that you hated this, but you are my fantasy baseball Moses, so I’m taking a shot. HOW’D I DO!!!? I’ve already made two trades – I know, I know – Gallardo (8) and Worley (20) for Santana, and Cruz (4) for Lee. I took Soria (12) and have already dropped him. Also dropped Doumit (25) once I got Santana. It’s a 12-team league, we count holds and it’s quite active. Anyway here’s my team; if you could, please tell me where I need to improve…
C – Carlos Santana (trade)
1B – Albert Pujols (1)
2B – Brandon Phillips (6)
3B – Alex Rodriguez (5)
SS – Jimmy Rollins (7)
OF – Josh Hamilton (3)
OF – Matt Holliday (2)
OF – Ichiro Suzuki (10)
OF – Brett Gardner (16)
UT – David Ortiz (11)
UT – Adam Dunn (22)
SP – Cliff Lee (Trade)
SP – Josh Johnson (9)
RP – Jason Motte (14)
RP – Joe Nathan (15)
P – Michael Pineda (13)
P – Shaun Marcum (17)
P – Jaime Garcia (18)
P – Max Scherzer (19)
P – Clay Bucholz (21)
P – Mike Adams (23)
P – Fernando Salas (24)
P – Vinnie Pestano (W)
P – Jonathan Broxton (W)
P – Brett Myers (W)
Thanks Ray!

Happy birthday Ray! Your birthday gift- the full start (not counting Japanese games) of the 2012 baseball season! Thanks for all the great wisdom, Oracle!
By Nick on Apr 1, 2012
Would you drop Liriano for Melancon in a ten team h2h league?
By Ray Flowers on Apr 1, 2012
Nick – Depends on your staff. It’s likely a short term fix unless Bailey is out for months. I wouldn’t be overly concerned with chasing a handful of saves in a 10 team lg.
By jon on Apr 1, 2012
Raymond! Happy day. Which side of Uggla/Beachy for Reyes/Floyd do you like in 16-team? I have a terrible SS (Casilla) and Zobrist to backup Uggla if I trade him away.
By Ray Flowers on Apr 1, 2012
Jon – Casilla isn’t someone I would feel comfortable with starting, even in a 16 tm lg, as my SS (he’s more of a middle infield option). You really need to upgrade. Adding Reyes would be huge for you. Floyd is about as solid as they come, though he certainly lacks the upside appeal of Beachy. Given your hole at SS, I’d do the deal, esp. if you feel comfortable about your SP staff.
By Ray Flowers on Apr 1, 2012
Ken C – Appreciate the support. Can’t wait for the games to get goin.
By jon on Apr 1, 2012
Thanks for the advice, Ray – I am a little worried about the staff (Josh J, Scherzer, Beachy, Lilly, EJax, Colon, Aceves, Duffy, Oswalt).
Think that staff is deep enough in 16-team with no starts/IP limits? That’s what will determine whether I make the deal.
Hope the bday was killer!
By Ray Flowers on Apr 1, 2012
Jon – I dont like Johnson as an ace in 16 tm lg. I’d like a more stable arm at the top. Lilly should be fine, dealing with injury. Colon, not expecting 1st half Colon from last year. Oswalt may be out for months. Aceves heading to pen, have to hope he gets some saves.
Not in love with the staff.
By jon on Apr 1, 2012
Thanks ray. Think I’m gonna do the Reyes deal mentioned above and then try to improve my pitching through some other deals once I see how the staff
Shakes out. Thank you as ever for your counsel!
By George Borden on Apr 2, 2012
Ray, I admire your work on The Drive. Two quick pitching questions for my 9-team, 5×5 roto league: 1. 7th starter is Mike Minor–should I dump him for jaimer Garcia, Bud Norris, Tim Stauffer, Luke Hocehvar or Juan Nicasio? 2. My second closer is Kyle Farnsworth; should i dump him for Sergio Santos? Thanks! George.
By Ray Flowers on Apr 2, 2012
George Borden – Drop Minor, add Garcia. Drop Farnsworth, add Santos.
Glad you enjoy the radio work too. It’s a blast to do.
By BSchlitz on Apr 2, 2012
Morning Ray,
My NL auction 5X5 pitching shaped up liked this:
MadBum, Wainwright, Gio, T.Hudson, Narveson, Wolf, Teheran, rex brothers, and gregorson(as u can see no closers). I am looking to drop Teheran for another pitcher. Starters available are Samardzija, Westbrook, Saunders, Lannan, Arroyo, Pelfrey, Morton, Karstens and Volstad. Relievers of note available are Salas, Mujica, Hen Rod, Bastardo, Casilla, and Ramon Ramirez. With what pitchers I already have on my team and with what is available would you be looking at one of these available SP or would you look at one of the the RP? Who jumps out at you?
Thanks Ray…u da man!!!!
By Ray Flowers on Apr 2, 2012
BSchlitz – how thin is this lg? Must be really shallow to have all those arms still around, or you haven’t done the reserve rounds yet, right? (NL only lgs should have 13 teams)
In an NL only lg., I wouldn’t be too quick to drop Teheran. Remember, its a LONG season. In NL only lgs, its about IP and ABs. Teheran could miss two months, but if he gives yous 110 strong innings, he’s worth holding on to. If you want to make a move, add Samardzija.
Rodriguez should be added too. He could get a handful of saves early on with Storen on the shelf.
By BSchlitz on Apr 2, 2012
Hi Ray,
Responding to the previous post I had…I wouldn’t call it “really shallow” but definately not deep. However, out of all the 30 bench spots in our league there are only 4 or 5 pitchers on benches. the rest of the bench spots are made up of hitters at this time. I have a feeling there may be a mad rush for pitchers once free agency opens. Not much hitting available at all on the waiver wire.
I am thin in the SB area. My hitters are m. montero, ike davis, ty greene, freese, scutaro, j. lowrie, jesus guzman, utley, upton, bruce, cb young, hart, ludwick, harper, alex gonzo, and arenado.
I have been offered Cahill and Schaefer for Tim Hudson. What are your thoughts on this? Ludwick is my utility spot right now and that’s the only spot i would be able to play schaefer. Is Ludwick going to play everyday with Heisey there? Schaefer’s durability scares me and I am also not sure of Cahill this season. I have heard a lot a negative stuff for Cahill this season. Any feedback you have on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks so much
By Ray Flowers on Apr 3, 2012
BSchlitz – Ludwick doesn’t profile as a 500 AB guy. Schafer does, but totally diff skill set, and he’s always seemingly injured. I worry about your lineup with Greene, Lowrie, Guzman, Ludwick as starters. You have to improve that. If you want to do the deal, go for it. Hudson is out a month anyway, so his value, and that of Cahill, isn’t likely to be tremendously different.
