whats up my friend, I have a trade question for you? im in last place of a deep 11 team roto league and i was offered t.hunter and cho choo for either and billingley? my other outfielders are bj. upton, victorino , ichiro, rios and my util is ibanez and my bench is abreu, parra and delmon young . thanks again ray

Wesley - I was offered t.hunter and cho choo for either and billingley?

Bad deal for you. At this point, Ethier is the equal of Choo who has had a hard time getting going. Billinglsey isn’t great, but he’s at least equal in value to Hunter. In fact, I’d be hard pressed to choose Hunter over him since Hunter isn’t a great option in an 11 team lg in the OF.

The defensive shifts are all the rage in MLB baseball now. I am curious if these affect position eligibility because they deff should.

Take a team in the AL east that plays the Yanks and faces TEX a ton of games. The alignment should offer position players to get multi position eligibility.

Today Ackley was tech the 2b but he was lined up in RF. There is no rule that says you have to have a set number of players at a position. For example many times this season teams have gone with 5 man if and 2OF late in the season. So the player that comes in and plays the 5th Infielder would still be considered an OF? That is crazy. I am not a fan of the shifts but if players are going to play all over the diamond they should be rewarded with eliblity for where they play. If Brett Lawrie is going to play shifted in the SS position he is playing SS. He is not a 3b playing shortstop.

I am sure you will disagree but it is a point worth bringing up. Players should get credit for where they are on the field not where they shift to

    Thanks allot Ray

12 team H2H 30 man rosters. When is it OK to add Manny Ramirez? What value do you see for him the rest of the way? Worth an add?

  5. By Joey on May 12, 2012

Kimbrel or Morrow. I know it is an odd question but H2H league with 40 innings pitched required each week. I have a pretty soild RP staff and adding Kimbrell would almost assure I lock up Saves and would help with the ratios. Who would you rather have

  6. By Ray Flowers on May 12, 2012

Adam – This topic about shifting players was recently debated amongst members of SABR in an email thread. I think I could summarize the thought by saying many people agreed with you with you theory – if a second baseman is playing RF for a shift, he should be listed as having played RF. The problem is then – where is the RF listed? You can only have one player at each of the nine positions on the field (I’d have to look up the official rules, you might be right, but common sense tells you there is only one per spot). Good point though.

  7. By Ray Flowers on May 12, 2012

Don – In a 12 team mixed league I wouldn’t bother adding Manny Ramirez. You could add him, but he’s old, been away from the game a while, and will be playing his games in a pitcher’s park. I’d only add him in an AL only lg.

  8. By Ray Flowers on May 12, 2012

Joey – Saves are random. In H2H league. Let’s say a closer gets 40 saves for the year. The season is 26 weeks. That’s barely 1.5 saves a week on average. Of course, some weeks are 3 saves, others zero. No way to really predict saves in a H2H setup.

I don’t have a problem with Kimbrel over Morrow, I don’t think anyone would, especially since he has so many Ks from the pen, but I’d try to hold on to Morrow if I had him, certainly.

    Ray,
I’m interested in putting together an offer for Hamilton in my 5×5 12 team league. I don’t want to offer too much or offend the other owner so here is what I’m thinking. I would offer SP-Peavy, RP-Marshall and include a Berkman, A. Hill or Zobrist. Do you have any combo ideas from the players I listed to help me with my offer?
    Thanks again

  10. By Randy on May 13, 2012

    Francouer or Allen Craig?

We count total bases. Do you see a playing time issue for Allen Craig? would you do this deal?

  11. By Ray Flowers on May 13, 2012

Daniel – I would not try to trade for Hamilton. There is ZERO chance he keeps this up and he has missed an average of 37 games the past four years. Given the price you will have to pay to get him, there’s just no way I would do it.

Peavy/Marshall/Zobrist would be your strongest offer, but I dont think the guy would take it.

  12. By Ray Flowers on May 13, 2012

Randy – First off, I don’t have an issue with this deal. Secondly, though I keep telling people, yes, I do have concerns about PT for Craig. See – http://www.rotoinfo.com/blog/fantasy-baseball-the-on-deck-circle-05102012.html

    Streaming a 2 start pitcher.

Westbrook Vs Cubs Dempster and Dodgers Kershaw or Blanton Vs Houston Harrell and Red Sox Lester

  14. By Ray Flowers on May 13, 2012

Josh – Blanton. Dempster has looked great all year, and Kershaw is as good as it gets.

  15. By Ricky S on May 13, 2012

    Ray,

Both Josh Johnson and Josh Beckett (I know, I don’t understand either) were just dropped in my 10 team weekly H2H. Our FAAB budget is $100 for the year, I currently have $61 left going into next week. My pitchers are:

    Hamels
    CJ Wilson
    Worley
    Bedard
    Gavin Floyd
    Danks
    Chapman
    Aceves
    Brett Myers
    Sergio santos
    Sale

My only bench hitter is Cameron Maybin who I don’t want to drop. Besides Danks, who would you drop for one of Beckett or JJ, and how much would you bid on each? Just for comparison, the 2 highest free agents have gone for is David Robertson $20 and both Mike Trout and Kenley Jansen went for $15

    Thanks as always bud

  16. By Bobby on May 13, 2012

    Hello Ray.

    I am in a 10 team 5×5 roto league.

I was offered Texiera for Albert Pujols. I have to tell you Pujols might be the 2012 version of Adam Dunn last year. How much longer should we be given Pujols a free pass? He has 1 bomb and is hitting .195 thats waiver wire numbers. Should i do this deal?

  17. By Mark on May 13, 2012

Ray – Drop Frank Francisco for Fuentes in 5×5 roto?

  18. By Ray Flowers on May 13, 2012

Bobby – No way Pujols pulls a Dunn this year. Ain’t gonna happen. If you wanted to deal him for Tex… you have noticed that Tex is hitting .223, right?

  19. By Ray Flowers on May 13, 2012

Ricky S – Drop Danks and Bedard. Add both Beckett and Johnson. I’d say go in the $10-12 range. Given that it’s a 10 tm lg, there are always options that are going to be out there.

  20. By Ray Flowers on May 13, 2012

Mark – Fuentes is the closer, not great skills though. Francisco better skills, but has looked awful this season. Can’t argue with making the move to Fuentes.

  21. By Eric H on May 13, 2012

I would like to trade for Pujols… I think he has nothing but good things ahead…. Would you trade Zimmerman and Tex for him or is that giving too much away. I feel Zimmerman(3b) struggles to stay healthy and Pujols will end up hitting for more average and roughly same HRs. I have Mike Moustakas, Bret Lawrie, and Bautista I could play at 3rd. 12 team Mixed 6×6

  22. By david on May 13, 2012

hi, ray. 12 team mixed nfbc league. can you rank theses starters for this week? i have six spots to fill.

    bumgarner (at st. l)
    romero (mets at home)
    capuano (at s.d.)
    garza (phils at home)
    colon (at angels, at s.f.)
danks (det at home, at cubs)
friedrich (at s.f, seattle at home)

these borderline two-start pitchers are leaving me nonplussed (i’m using the proper definition here – meaning perplexed, befuddled, exasperated. not the opposite, with which the word is often confused). thanks for the help.

  23. By Joe on May 14, 2012

    Hey Ray,

Hope all is well. Justin Upton has been struggling big time this season…he had that thumb injury earlier. Is now a good time to target him in a trade? Or best to stay away and see how he bounces back over the next couple weeks?

  24. By Steve on May 14, 2012

Hey Rey. 10 team roto league. Was offered Fielder and Hosmer for Pujols late last nite. I feel like i almost have to do it even though i have no use for Hosmer and i wouldnt know who to drop. My team is the following.
    C Wieters
    1b pujols
    2b kinsler
    Ss desmond
    3b Zimmerman
    OF Granderson
    OF Lahair
    OF Melky Cabrera,Heyward or Trout
    Util Allan Craig
    Util Brett Lawrie
I can prob drop Jeff Samardjiza if i do it cuz my staff is Haren,Bumgarner,Garza,Lynn and Matt Moore

    What do you think?

  25. By Matt K on May 14, 2012

Ray, I guess you think hamilton won’t be healthy all year, if I were to trade him I wouldn’t know where to start. Would you have any names or suggestions for me?

  26. By Alan on May 14, 2012

    Hey Ray,
Someone dropped Yoenis Cespedes in my 12 team roto league. Is he worth picking up? I’d have to drop either Aaron Hill or Josh Reddick to do it. What do you think?
    Thanks

  27. By wesley on May 14, 2012

Hey ray, 12 team league weekly roto league, pick 2 for week, d.young,b. abreu, ibanez, and rios
    thanks again

  28. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

    Wesley – Rios and Abreu.

  29. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

Alan – Cespedes was on pace to hit 25 homers with 100 RBI. People just expecting too much. His injury seems minor, so should be back soon. I’d consider dropping Hill if you have a suitably strong option at second.

  30. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

Matt K – I don’t know if Hamilton will be hurt, I just know that the last four years he’s missed an average of 37 games so history certainly suggests an injury is likely. In terms of what you can get – I have no idea. If you offered him to me I’d be thinking he’s a 130 game player how is bound to regress. You offer him to someone else and they might think he’s going to hit .350 with 50 homers. Let the league know he is up for sale, you’ll get plenty of offers.

  31. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

Steve – You have to take Hosmer and Fielder for Pujols, you just have to.

Honestly, I’d drop Lynn over JS, but since he’s started out so hot I’m sure you could trade Lynn for something impressive, so don’t drop him. You can drop JS – your league is painfully small so you’re going to have to get rid of some strong player.s

  32. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

Joe – JUp is still the talent he has always been. If you can get him on the cheap, I’d do it. If you want two weeks and he heats up, you’ll have to pay 100 percent to get him. Do it now when his price is supressed. His K and BB rates are fine, but he’ll need to do a better job lifting the ball to get back on track.

  33. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

David – I’d sit out Friedrich even with the two strong mathcup plays.

  34. By Nate on May 14, 2012

Ray- It looks like i will be dropping Luebke because of the injury. In a 12 team mixed H-2-H, I have Josh Johnson, Matt Moore, and Drew Smyly available. Who do you like best the rest of the way?

  35. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

Eric H – I agree with you on Pujols.

I would NOT trade Ryan Zimmerman and Tex for him though. Giving up way too much. You’re going to give up two top-30 players on draft day for just one in return? Too rich for my blood.

  36. By Ray Flowers on May 14, 2012

Nate – How in the world are you in a 12 team lg with JJohnson, Moore and Smyly on waivers? That’s just bonkers.

    I’d add Moore.
