I’m in a h2h, 4 OF 1 UT league. I have Adam Jones, McCutcheon, Holliday, Chris Young, Cargo, Alex Gordon, and Jordan Scafer. (also Zobrist and Bautista with OF eligibility). Should I look to trade one for a SP or keep the depth. And if so, who would you look to trade? Thanks.

  2. By David on May 17, 2012

Ray – you are the greatest.
    12 team, roto, mixed, 5×5.

    1. What kind of pitcher do you think I can get for Bourne right now? I am stacked at steals and need a SP. I am last in WHIP And ERA. How about Anibel Sanchez (or however you spell it)? What other SP would you trade for?

    2. Also, should I pick up pick up Gerardo Parra
and for any of these backups Jed Lowrie, Neal Walker, Yonder Alonso or Cody Ross??

Thanks! You should be and will eventually be in the front office somewhere!

    Ray
Take ur pick, Napoli, posey, or pedroia for my Util spot and a short reason why
    Thanks

David – No idea how people evaluate players. Bourn has been a top-30 guy the past three years. He’s a top-30 guy again this year. Problem is, many people don’t recognize that. Anibal Sanchez is a great arm, but I’d be aiming higher if it was me. Sanchez isn’t likely to keep up this pace, though he will be very impressive if he stays healthy.

Parra is likely to lose PT in a couple of days when Chris Young returns.

Is Dustin Ackley a must pickup in a 10 team, h2h league? Thanks.

  6. By Ray Flowers on May 17, 2012

Sean – your league is WAY too shallow if you’re ever going to sit Pedroia. He never sits unless he is hurt. At the same time, you have two top-10 catchers as well, and they shouldn’t be sitting either. If you only start one, no need to have them both. Start trading.

Ray- In a daily league (which I know you enjoy)and wondering if I should chance Moore against Boston or bench him.

Hi Ray, I just emailed you this question
Trade Eval. Cliff Lee for Beltran?
I am the Commish of an NL only auction, straight 5 x 5 roto league. The leagues about 20 years old now with the same 9 owners for about 6 years. After many years of not liking the “anonymous” veto system or the dictator “commish” decides, I decided to form a trade committee made up of myself as the tiebreaker if need be & 4 of my most experienced, older, level headed owners. Working great for 5-6 years now. We’ve had no controversies at all until now. The trade was offered by Lee’s owner Monday morning @ 9 AM, accepted by Beltrans owner @ 11 AM, seemingly before the news broke about Beltran, although I don’t know when Beltran actually told anyone how bad his knee was hurting so it’s possible the Beltran owner knew what was up when he made the trade. 1 Commissioner abstained (first time for that as well). 1 voted to ok, and 2 voted no. So I had no choice but to veto due to simple 2-1 majority. I am hearing the appeal now. The No’s argue that Lee is a way batter player (the stats this year don’t agree), was drafted for $34 vs $10 for Beltran, and because Beltran is now dealing with a ‘barking knee’. If Beltran plays today & seems ok, I am truly stuck as far as knowing how to rule? Any advice or commentary from you or your team would be appreciated. Including for future reference, how do you take a pending injury into account when deciding, for example, what if the trade was accepted, and then that night Beltran broke an ankle…do you consider factors that happened after the trade was accepted but before approved?

Big fan of yours, the site & the show by the way.

    Please help?

Thanks for what you do Ray. I must say though, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to convince the wife I am reading fantasy baseball information when she sees pictures like these atop the page for your articles. Those awkward conversations/explanations with the old lady are more than worth it for the content though!

Also, on a more serious note – where could I purchase a baseballguys.com t shirt?

Joe – It’s so on this Friday. Tell a friend, it helps a brother out!

  12. By Ray Flowers on May 17, 2012

Mike – Matt Moore has been bad in four home starts, and he looked terrible against BOS first time around. I’d pass.

Posted blurb and referral link in both my leagues. I’m sure a few will join.

James A – Beltran doesn’t just have a knee issue, he’s also dealing with foot problems. Two of the last three years he’s not appeared in 85 games, is 35 yrs old, and is no longer a 25 steal guy despite the hot start. He was NEVER going to sustain his early season pace.

Lee may not have lived up to draft day expectations as of yet, but saying he hasn’t been extremely impressive wouldn’t be remotely close to accurate. He has an amazing set of numbers next to his name: 1.95 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 8.27 K/9, 8.50 K/BB ratio. In fact, he may never have pitched better than he is right now. From this point forward he certainly has the look of a top-10 SP.

I’d rather have had Lee on March 1st, April 1st, May 1st etc. He’s just a better option than Beltran regardless of how good Beltran looked.

At the same time, I don’t know how you can veto this deal. There is no disputing that Beltran is hurt, but if the deal was done before the full extent was no, that’s just tough beans on the guy getting Beltran.

Again, it’s a clear cut win for the Lee guy for me, but the other side can argue that Beltran has been a top-10 performer to this point of the season so I don’t see how you can veto it.

Matt Hembree – I only post the pretty ladies when there is a contest I’m looking to alert people to sign up for. Just tell your wife it’s Ray Flowers way of making sure everyone knows how they can make some money for free. See, the pretty ladies are actually me trying to tell you how you can win money. I’m doing you a solid. ;-)

I’ve been thinking about shirts and hats, but haven’t gotten far enough along in the process yet. Probably something I’ll look to release next season.

Hey Ray – can you tell me if you think I’ve got the below ranks right in 10-team 6×6 w/ OPS, AVG, QS, W, K/9

MI: Andrus, R. Weeks, Alexei, J. Weeks

    3B: Youkilis (healthy), Prado, Headley

SP: Norris, McDonald, Dickey (who’s the likeliest breakout here)?

I’ve got the draft guide and have sort of gone off that, but was curious if the specific settings and performance to date change your views at all. Thanks man!

  17. By Nick on May 18, 2012

I was offered Markakis and Beachy for Ryan Zimmerman. I have Freese at third. Would you accept the deal?
    Thanks.

  18. By Donna on May 18, 2012

Ray- The owner of Micheal Morse got impatient and dropped him a while back. Should I drop B. Lahair or Billy(Brett) Butler for Morse now that he appears closer to a return?

  19. By Ray Flowers on May 18, 2012

Jon – Remember, nothing is in a vacuum. Bourn is a great player, but if you are in the lead by 22 steals right now, maybe getting a power hitter for him is a good deal for your team.

MI: Andrus, Alexei R, J Weeks, R Weeks

3B: Prado, Youkilis (just don’t know about his health), Headley

SP: McDonald is the likely breakout guy – he’s well on his way right now. Dickey will never break out, he doesn’t have the stuff. A repeat of last year is best case.

  20. By Ray Flowers on May 18, 2012

Nick – I would certainly accept this deal. There are always concerns about the health of Freese, but he’s been impressive while Zimmerman hasn’t. Plus, Markakis is super stable in the OF, and Beachy is well on his way to a terif season.

  21. By Ray Flowers on May 18, 2012

Donna – How in the world are you going to drop two guys who are in the top-75 or so bats this year for a guy who hasn’t played? If you want to add Morse, go for it. You have to keep Butler if you ask me, and since you did, I’m suggesting you keep Butler. If you want to deal LaHair do it – he’s been pretty amazing so you can’t just drop him.
