June 5th, 2012 | by Ray Flowers |

(1) King Felix to have his start Wednesday skipped because of a wonky back.

(2) Johan Santana start pushed back two days. Chris Young to start for Mets Tuesday.

(3) Dustin Pedrioa (thumb) will avoid the DL.

(4) Jemile Weeks doing nothing at the dish – nothing.

(5) Alex Presley recalled by Pirates.

(6) Willin Rosario thinks he’s Adam Dunn.

(7) Mike Trout has been utterly dynamic.

Short at short. I got shut out of anything with a pulse during my draft and have auditioned the likes of Cozart, Escobar and Aybar so far. What do you think about ROS for Dee Gordon? Abysmal YTD but showing signs lately.

  2. By Ray Flowers on Jun 5, 2012

Fenz – Gordon is awful. See – https://twitter.com/BaseballGuys/status/210075651401711617

He also has four steals in his last 32 games. I’m surprised he’s still in the bigs right now, let alone starting for the Dodgers.

And it’s ROTW – Rest of the Way.

  3. By Mark on Jun 5, 2012

Ray – In a 5×5 league do you like LaRoche or Carlos Lee the ROTW? What are your thoughts on a trade I just did – my Peavy and LaHair for McCutchen and I’ll grab McCarthy off of the wire. Was it too much?

  4. By Ray Flowers on Jun 5, 2012

Mark – I’ll say LaRoche. Very close though. The deciding factor right now is Lee’s injury. He does have dual position eligibility which is nice though, and that might offset the difference… but his health woes cost him here.

    my Peavy/LaHair for McCutchen/McCarthy

Winner, winner. Peavy won’t keep up his current pace, he just can’t. Health woes and performance will slowly drag him down (his ERA is more than a run up over the past few weeks). LaHair hasn’t hit a homer in about 14 weeks – well you get the point.

McCutchen is elite, and McCarthy solid.

Would you trade gio Gonzalez for latos and tommy Hansen are the hurt or jUst struggling do you think it is worth risk 15 team league I’ll want to hear your opinion

    Thanks

  6. By Nick on Jun 5, 2012

Can you rank these middle infielders?
    Kendrick, Ackley, A. Escobar, Cozart
    Thanks.

  7. By Mitch on Jun 5, 2012

    Ray,

You talked about pedroia and possible zap of offense. I was offered Dan Ugla straight up for pedroia. I am pretty much in dead last in Hr’s in h2h category league. Do i pull the trigger?

  8. By Jon on Jun 5, 2012

Keeper league with OPS. No limit on amount of time however it is a H2H league.

    J Upton or G Stanton?

  9. By Dan on Jun 5, 2012

Moving forward in a league with OBP and total bases. Please rank these players in a keeper league. There is no dollar values attached to the keepers or year restrictions so could be forever.

    Andrus
    Moustakas
    Heyward
    Ackley
    Will Meyers

Brad – Do you need the elite play, or the depth? Gio is obviously the best play, but he’s also very likely to take at least a little step back as the season progresses while it seems very reasonable that both Latos and Hanson are likely to improve. At the same time, what player will you have to drop in order to even out the roster? Might make the 2-for-1 deal look a lot less appealing.

  11. By Ray Flowers on Jun 5, 2012

Nick – I got no issue with the order you listed the guys in: Kendrick, Ackley, Escobar and Cozart.

  12. By Ray Flowers on Jun 5, 2012

Mitch – Pedroia played, and should be OK. He’s a borderline superstar and I’d take him, if healthy, every day over Uggla. However, he’s not at 100 percent, and since you seem to need power over avg., this deal isn’t a bad one for you to accept.

  13. By Ray Flowers on Jun 5, 2012

Jon – You want Upton over Stanton. Justin is a more well rounded option. He’s likely to always out steal Stanton, and he’s also likely to be the better performer in the batting average category. No wrong answer here in a keeper lg.

  14. By Ray Flowers on Jun 5, 2012

Dan – Keep forever eh? Here goes.

    Andrus, Heyward, Myers, Ackley, Moose

  15. By Jay on Jun 6, 2012

hey ray, 12 team 5×5 roto…im in 7th…10 points off the lead…need power have speed to give…was offered matt moore and dunn for de aza and james mcdonald? it is a keeper FYI…what do you think?

  16. By Ray Flowers on Jun 6, 2012

Jay – was offered matt moore and dunn for de aza and james mcdonald? it is a keeper FYI

I see no issue with this deal. It gives you the power you say you need in Dunn, and gives you Moore who is one of the top-5 young pitchers in baseball.

    Ray,

May be to late for this piece. If so I’ll post on next article. In 9 team NL only keeper where I’m playing to win this year (currently in first and leading 4 of 5 hitting categories), would you deal $8 Adam Wainwright for $26 Cole Hamels and $18 Heath Bell?

The kicker is I could keep Wainwright next year for $8 OR I could long term him at $18 for next year + 2 more years.

  18. By Steve on Jun 6, 2012

Do you have any inside info on Gardner? What is his time table? I think I read something that said he might be ready by this weekend at the earliest??? I’m thinking of dealing for him and wanted to know what you thought. Should I or should I wait to see how he is?

  19. By Ray Flowers on Jun 6, 2012

Fish – If you are trying to win this year then blow it out and go for it. Obviously Waino at $8 and $18 seems like a strong value, but Hamels is a better pitcher, and Bell still has a shot at 30 saves. I always say if you can win go for it.

  20. By Ray Flowers on Jun 6, 2012

Steve – Gardner should be back next week at the latest according to reports. Of course, we’ve been hearing this for weeks so I’m always dubious. Until I see him back, hard to know what to think. Will say this. If you’ve kept him for weeks waiting, I’d only deal him if you’re getting back a strong piece. Dealing him for 60 cents on the dollar now that he is close to a return seems pointless.

  21. By Steve on Jun 6, 2012

Thanks, Ray. I’m on par with you, too, but I would be the one dealing for him. I may hold out until I know it is official he is returning. Again, THANKS, Ray!

I received an offer of wainwright or tommy hansen and latos for gio gonzalez i would drop colon or nolasco. I know bio is the best player but i thought the upside of the 3 pitchers would offset the loss of gio. 15 team league. is the health of all the pitchers good. Hansen hurt shoulder last year and is back but will he hold up? Latos in hr park will he turn it around and wainwright back from tommy john will he right himself or hold up?

oh was offered freese for k morales also can you comment is freese healthy or going down soon wrist?

  23. By Edgar on Jun 6, 2012

My kubel rasmus and parra for wainright and Justin morneu

  24. By Ray Flowers on Jun 6, 2012

Brad – Is this the same question you asked the other day?

Do you need the elite play, or the depth? Gio is obviously the best play, but he’s also very likely to take at least a little step back as the season progresses while it seems very reasonable that both Latos and Hanson are likely to improve. At the same time, what player will you have to drop in order to even out the roster? Might make the 2-for-1 deal look a lot less appealing.

It not 3 pitchers you are getting back its two, right? Either Waino OR Hanson + Latos FOR Gio Gonzalez. Right?

I answered this exact question – Morales or Freese – on the radio show yesterday (Sirius210, XM87 from 5-8 PM EDT M-F). I’ll take Freese, but it’s pretty even given all the injuries that Freese always has.

  25. By Ray Flowers on Jun 6, 2012

    Edgar – My kubel/rasmus/parra for wainright/justin morneu

Parra has little value in mixed as 4th OF. Rasmus and Kubel are solid, but more depth plays than anything.

Wainwright has pitched better than his ratios indicate.
Morneau is starting to hit again, but I’m still not sold.

If you need SP help go ahead, but I don’t get too excited about it either way.
