I’ve already completed this move but wanted your take on it. I dropped Alex Gordon and picked up Trevor Plouffe as a free agent. I’m in a 10 team, H2H, 12 category league. I just didn’t see Gordon having the type of season he did a year ago and with so much position eligibility with Plouffe, I thought the move made sense. Your thoughts?

    Shane

  2. By Carl on Jun 19, 2012

Ray, sorry if you already addressed this. When Myers is called up, what type of league is he worth a pick up in? Is he a defiite keeper for next year if he can be kept in the final round?

  3. By Joe M on Jun 19, 2012

    Mark Prior?
What role will he play? Do you think he’ll be a good source for holds? I love middlemen with high k’s, think he’s worth grabbing now before the news hits?

  4. By Ray Flowers on Jun 19, 2012

Shane Karlin – I say it all the time, in 10 tm lgs moves are made that seem odd. Dropping a top-20 OF last year for a guy with 500 career ABs and a .230 average makes no sense. Still, Plouffe has been a top-10 hitter the past few weeks, so I don’t have an issue with you making the move. Will tell you though, from this point forward, I’d put it at 50/50 that Gordon outproduced Plouffe.

Joe M – You saw the video on Prior, right? He’ll be a middle reliever with minimal value. Remember, as I said in the video, he hasn’t thrown a big league pitch in five years. Don’t get too ahead of yourself. He’s an AL only speculative add.

  6. By Ray Flowers on Jun 19, 2012

Carl – Did you watch the video that you posted this question on??? I specifically address your query about Myers in the video. I don’t know if we’ll see him for months if Cain is healthy.

As for keeper question, how many guys do you keep, how long, how big is the league etc?

  7. By Joe M on Jun 19, 2012

    Thanks man,
Yeah I watched it, wasn’t sure if the role you were referring to will bring in the holds. But I hear you that he hasn’t pitched mlb in a bunch of years. You just sounded so excited about that K rate, and quite frankly, it kind of excites me too :)

    Ray,

    H2H 12 team league,
    I was offered Cargo\Halladay\Lohse

    for my: Stanton\CCrawford.

Stanton is a keeper through next season. My team could use the speed Cargo will add and my pitching has no real ace outside of Matt Cain.

Do you really believe dickey can keep this up or are you just pointing out the surprising facts of where we stand right now?

  10. By Sean on Jun 19, 2012

    Ray
Colby Rasmus for real? Drop maybin for him?

  11. By Edgar on Jun 19, 2012

What’s your guess date for the rockies to call up arenado

  12. By Luke on Jun 19, 2012

Need insight from the Oracle. At the point where i need to drop a 1B. Who would you keep, Freeman or Goldschmit? Growing tired of Freddie’s constant injuries but not sure if i can rely on consistent playing time or production from Goldy. Which way would you roll? Thanks as always.

  13. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

JoeM – I never said Dickey would keep this up. In fact, it boggles the mind to the point of absurdity that he can keep this up. Knuckle ballers just don’t do this. He is doing it, but I question how much longer the run can possibly last.

  14. By Jeremy on Jun 20, 2012

Hey Ray, should I trade my Jay Bruce and Drew Stubbs for Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford? Thanks!

  15. By Mark on Jun 20, 2012

Ray – Youkillis was just dropped in a 5×5 12 team non-keeper league. Would you drop Plouffe or Carlos Lee for him? Thanks!

  16. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Sean – you can read my thoughts on Rasmus here – http://fantasyalarm.com/rounding-the-bases-groins-arms-expectations-and-performance/

  17. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Edgar – A while yet. Pachedo is hitting .301 the past three weeks and .295 on the year so there is no reason to rush Arenado. Plus, have you looked at his numbers are Double-A?

    .292./.342/.428

Those aren’t very good numbers for an elite prospect. He’s also only gone deep six times in 257 at-bats.

Honestly, I don’t think he’s ready yet. If Pacheco keeps hitting, it will likely be at least Aug if not Sept before we see Nolan.

  18. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Luke – Goldschmidt has appeared in 58 of 68 games for the Dbacks, so there should be no worry about PT with him. He’s also hitting .346-6-13 the past three weeks – he’s on fire.

Freeman is hitting .244 with one homer the past three weeks, and he seems to be coming up with a new injury daily.

I’d really like to see you keep both. They are so young and really unproven that I’d like to have that depth with both around. If you have to go with one, go Goldy but again, I’d like you to keep both.

  19. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Jeremy – trade my Jay Bruce and Drew Stubbs for Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford

Stubbs is hurt. Crawford is hurt. Lets call that duo a push.
Do you trade Bruce for AGone?

What position do you need to fill? Is it more important for you to get AVG (Adrian) or HR (Bruce)?

I think this is a fair deal and your getting the two better skilled players – even if that’s not how the production will ring out the ROTW.

  20. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Mark – Youkilis shouldn’t be in waivers in a 12 tm lg. However, I don’t see how you could drop either Plouffe or Lee for him. Anyone else you could let go?

  21. By Nate on Jun 20, 2012

    Hey Ray,
Aaron Hill is on fire right now. I know they are 2 different players, but they play the same position. Based on overall value, who would you take the rest of the way? Hill or Altuve?

  22. By Pete on Jun 20, 2012

I can trade Pettitte for Trumbo in an AL-only league (I need power because I have Longoria and others out with injury). I have seen your video comments on both players and you believe that both players are going to regress significantly. Would you take Trumbo in this deal?

  23. By Jeremy on Jun 20, 2012

I could actually use the HR more, but Im getting a little annoyed by Bruce’s streakiness and inconsistency. Do you think that Gonzo will turn into his old self in the second half and be an elite player or do you think hes just not an elite player anymore? Thanks

  24. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Pete – If you can deal Pettitte to get Trumbo, and you need offense, I’d do it immediately in an AL only lg.

  25. By Ray Flowers on Jun 20, 2012

Jeremy – Bruce is ALWAYS streaky. He’s been that way since his career began.

Gonzo old self? What is that? I’ve said and written TONS of times, that AGone is not a 35 HR hitter in Boston. Just not. I’ve also said he’s not a .330 hitter. Just not. Agone was barely elite, ever, since he has no speed either. He’s got a shot to be a top-5 first baseman, and should improve moving forward, but not back to last years levels.
