Around the Horn: September 4, 2012

September 4th, 2012 | by Ray Flowers |

(1) Kris Medlen, best pitcher in baseball?

(2) Jacoby Ellsbury struggling to produce.

(3) Chase Headley – out of control. Just killing it.

(4) Marco Scutaro strong pickup for Giants.

(5) Chris Iannetta surging at the dish.

(6) Wil Myers Minor League Player of the Year. Not getting called up Royals?

(7) Troy Tulowitzki nearing a return from groin injury?

    Ray,

Football question if I can. 10 team standard league. We HAD to draft 2 Ks, TEs and Ds and could only draft 4 RBs. I went CJ, Matthews, Ridley and Leshoure. Nobody drafted Rashad Jennings.

We only get 5 (free) FA moves per year. Right now my flex (until Matthews plays) is Torrey Smith.

OK to start Smith or should I use a FA move to pick up Rashad Jennings and start him at flex Week 1? I was all set to pull the trigger on that but then I saw that MJD might get 8-10 touches even though he just reported. At that point I figured Smith might be just as good.

    Thanks Ray.

Fish – I would totally have taken Jennings over Leshoure. However, at this point, since you only have five moves, I cant say to do anything. With MJD back in the fold Jennings role will likely return to handcuff in a few weeks. Since you only have five moves, I wouldn’t do anything.

hey ray, 10 team h2h playoffs start next week 1 catcher league. Would you drop Brian Mccann for Iannetta, Lucroy or jesus montero. Or should i just keep em . thanks again

Wesley – problem is, when we are talking 2-3 weeks of games, it’s nearly impossible to know. For all I know McC could hit .325 ROTW and Iannetta .235. When talking small sample sizes, so hard to know.

With McCann’s ill health, I’d add Lucroy slightly ahead of Iannetta.

Morgan – Glad the draft guide worked out well for you.

Only spot that doesn’t stand out is Celek, and he should be fine in a 12 tm. Since you only start 2 WRs, the lack of depth you have at that position isn’t likely to kill ya.

Hey, so I’m in an 8 team PPR H2H league and struggling to choose 3 WR to start.

    Dwayne Bowe
    Vincent Jackson
    Jordy Nelson
    Demaryius Thomas
    Justin Blackmon

    What do you recomment?

  8. By Ray Flowers on Sep 4, 2012

O – In an 8-team lg, you are going to struggle every week, and likely make a bunch of miscalculations. Just how it is in such a painfully shallow lg. I’d go Bowe, Nelson, VJax.

  12. By Ray Flowers on Sep 5, 2012

Randy – On Sunday Mornings I answer start/sit questions on Twitter @siriusxmfantasy from 10a-1p EDT.

As of right now, I’d say Helu, but that’s a pretty rough bunch.

Ray, I’m on the bubble for playoffs and this is the last week, do you think I should keep McCarthy in against the red hot Angels today?

  14. By Ray Flowers on Sep 5, 2012

Matt K – I’d sit him. He has a poor track record against ANA, and last time against them he also didn’t look great either.

I would go with Romo also, if they can with the turnover side of the game only though
