Hey Ray, Congratulations on the Giants World Series. It was good to see the team that beat my beloved Yankees get whooped so thoroughly. I come to you with a rather lengthy post on a rather simple question.

The question is, with the current HB depth that I have, should I make a move to upgrade at QB, WR, TE or stay put with my depth for the few bye weeks/injuries that may arise?

The league is a PPR with 4 pt TD pass and -2 INT. Starting spots are QB, 2 HB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex HB/WR/TE. Most weeks I roll out the 3 best match-ups at HB, D. Thomas and S. Johnson at WR, and the best match-up at QB.

    My roster:

    QB: Dalton, Freeman, Flacco.
HB: Peterson, Forte, Charles, Martin, Mendenhall, Ballard.
    WR: D Thomas, S. Johnson, P Garcon, B Gibson.
    TE: Celek

I’ve been sent numerous offers for my HB’s. Martin and Charles have 2 of the easiest remaining SOS while Forte and Peterson are 31st and 32nd in SOS.

The current trades on the table are:

    Forte for his R. Wayne…

Forte for either Peyton or Brady…(this owner has TE V. Davis or T. Gonzo who I could try to get packaged in a trade)

Forte and D. Thomas for A Rodgers and D. Moore.

Having a premier QB is appealing, but you definitely almost get “stuck” starting them, regardless of the match-up. I looked at using a QB carousel(if I traded for another position instead) and I came up with this plan that goes through the fantasy playoffs…

Wk 9 Flacco @ Cle or Freeman @ Oak
Wk 10 Flacco vs Oak or Freeman vs SD
    Wk 11 Dalton @ KC
Wk 12 Flacco @ SD or Dalton vs Oak
    Wk 13 Dalton @ SD
    Wk 14 Flacco @ Wash
Wk 15 Freeman @ New Orleans
WK 16 Flacco vs NYG or Freeman vs Rams

In my league scoring, the Colts(A. Luck) currently have the best QB SOS left.. 21.77 pts Allowed by opponents. Using the above QB Carousel plan would amount to a 23.22 pts Allowed SOS.

In comparison with what Qb’s I’ve been offered,

    Peyton has 20.39
    Brady has 18.8
    Rodgers has 18.76

All three QB’s also have multiple possible cold weather games the last 4 weeks. Peyton has 3, Brady has 2 and Rodgers all 4.

On the flip side, The QB carousel guys have several weeks where they will be flying cross country to play in SD or OAK, which can also cause teams to be susceptible to a let down.

I’m probably over-analyzing this, obviously fantasy football has a lot of luck involved, but what do you think my best option is going forward for this 4-4 squad of mine?

QB, WR, TE or stay put? I don’t know which WR’s to even target to trade for to start over S. Johnson.

My thoughts are guys like Calvin, Fitz, Nicks, maybe Roddy White if I went the WR route…although I haven’t explored their availability and aren’t sure if the first 3 are more risky than an upgrade.

What would the Oracle do? Thanks Ray!

Jeff the Dream – There is NO reason to have three QBs unless you start two.

None of your QBs is exciting.

I would look to deal Dalton while you still can get value, though it might have disappeared after his 105 yd outing. Dalton is not a weekly starter. Period.

You cannot, in my opinion, do a deal to add a 4th QB. If you do, NO ONE is going to do anything but low ball the hell out of you knowing that you will have to just drop two of them.

Your biggest need is at WR. You only have two guys who could start. You gotta add depth.

I wrote a piece last week talking about WR targets:
    http://fantasyalarm.com/in-the-trenches-wk-8-a-positional-breakdown

Wayne has like 12 TDs in his last 39 games, and you shouldn’t be expecting him to set career bests in catches and yards in his 12th season.Still, of the offers you noted, the one to add Wayne is the only one that addressed your biggest need – WR.

Man your quick to respond. :-) So your saying to trade away Dalton and keep Freeman and Flacco as my starting QB’s the rest of the season, while targeting a WR instead of a QB or TE? Would Forte be the guy I should look to trade away?

The Wayne owner also offered a package deal of L. McCoy and Wayne for Peterson and Forte.

Also an Owner with Pierre Thomas and Alex Green at HB is stacked at WR with Roddy White, Calvin, and Marshall..perhaps those are better options than Wayne.

I have lots of $#%# going on in my head. Sorry for the thousands of questions.

Jeff the Dream – Yes, I would deal Dalton. Second, Calvin Johnson, Marshall and White are all acceptable returns if you deal any of your RBs – Forte included. Make a low ball effort starting with CJ.

    Hi Ray,

What are your thoughts on the following trade?

Dynasty league, 1 point PPR, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR and 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE)

    My roster:

    QB P Manning, Luck, Freeman
RB Forte, Bradshaw, Sproles, Leshoure, A Green, Hillis
WR Colston, Austin, S Johnson, Little, V Brown, Randle, D Jones, Hixon
    TE Graham, Daniels, Cook

I get Bowe and Tamme for Daniels and Randle.

The other owner is stacked at WR and has Fitz, Cruz, Dez, Harvin, Cobb and Hartline.

John – Daniels is injury prone. Having a great year, but still. Tamme though is nowhere near Daniels. Out wide you get the huge advantage of Bowe over Randle. Given that you have Graham who is a superstar, and Cook who has the look of potentially being one, go ahead and send Daniels out. I would also move on from Tamme, and you dont need to have three QBs either unless your lg says you have to. Since the other guy is so stacked at WR, maybe you can even try to get Bowe or Fitzgerald for less?
