I’m a broken record at this point with my fantasy baseball teams. Here is how a normal week goes. Player injured. Waiver-wire add of inferior player. Repeat. Sound familiar to most of you? Here’s how the waiver-wire additions went for the week.
TOUT WARS (15 team mixed): And the hits just keep on coming. Tim Hudson is done for the year after that gruesome injury at first base. I lost him. It was also announced that Brandon Morrow (forearm) is likely done for the year as well. A-Rod might be suspended for the year. Derek Jeter is back. Let’s see how long that lasts. John Jaso has been placed on the 7-day DL. Domonic Brown has been placed on the DL (concussion). They join the already lost for the season Yasmani Grandal and the trying to work his way back Cameron Maybin. Ay caramba. By putting Jaso and Brown on the DL I was able to add Nick Hundley and Dustin Ackley to help out my squad. At least Ackley is batting .290 over his last 31 at-bats, though being that this is an OBP league it doesn’t mean much. I did make a deal. I sent out the underachieving Pablo Sandoval for a three player haul – Travis Wood, Mark Reynolds and Jon Jay. Reynolds takes the place of Pablo, Wood takes the place of Hudson, and Jay takes the roster spot of Blake Parker.
Notable bids: Cisnero ($1), Rosenthal ($1), Kyle Gibson ($1), John Lagares ($1), Joakim Soria ($1), David Robertson ($1)
LABR (12 team, AL-only): I added Cisnero last week, and with Jose Veras dealt to the Tigers where he will serve as the setup man for Joaquin Benoit, so hopefully he will take over the 9th inning reigns in Houston. He’s got a big arm, 40 Ks in 41.1 innings, but Cisnero’s also walked 19 and he’s allowed 17 base runners in his last 7.2 innings. I had $59 dollars left, and that wasn’t close to being enough to add either of the two big adds this week: Matt Garza went for $64 and Alfonso Soriano went for $72 as people are going all in on the two veterans. Another guy went for a huge total, Jonathan Villar ($51). Since I’m destroying the competition in steals, I have 132 steals and no one else has more than 92, there was little reason for me to add Villar who I wrote about last week in No Name Additions.
Notable bids: Soriano ($72), Garza ($64), Villar ($51), Kole Calhoun ($11), Stephen Vogt ($4)

FSTA (13 team mixed): Check out the DL – Jason Grilli, Joel Hanrahan, Sergio Santos, Tim Hudson, Wandy Rodriguez, B.J. Upton and Kevin Youkilis. I lost out on Melancon – I bid $33. I did make two moves though as roster spots opened with Grilli/Hudson on the DL. The two arms I added to the mix were Erasmo Ramirez ($9) and Trevor Rosenthal ($6). Erasmo has struggled with a 5.40 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in two starts, but there’s a good arm here. As for Rosenthal, he’s been a huge contributor this season with a 2.20 ERA, 1.12 WHIP an a whopping 73 Ks in 49 innings. Over his last 11 innings he’s struck out 19.
Notable bids: Christian Yelich ($119), Mark Melancon ($66), Josh Johnson ($11), Matt Dominguez ($5)
SIRIUSXM EXPERTS (12 team mixed): I didn’t make any moves this week. I like my staff as Shields, Greinke and Tillman have been nails of late, and Hellickson/Jimenez/Nova/Stults have also been very sharp. Too bad the old offense is struggling. At least Gordon Beckham is back from his finger injury. Yippee.
Notable bids: Mark Melancon ($19), Brad Ziegler ($4), Marlon Byrd ($3), Brandon Beachy ($3), Neil Walker ($2)
SIRIUSXM LISTENER LG (11 team mixed): This is the only league with an open waiver-wire. I made three moves. It’s a redraft league so I let go of Ryan Braun and added Brad Miller who has been hitting very well since being called up. Logan Morrison is out, so in with Chris Calobello who had a nice weekend right after I added him (he had two homers and four RBIs in three contests). Finally, cause the league is so thin and pitching is prevalent on waivers, I let go Martin Perez and added Juan Lagares on the slimmest of slim chances that he keeps up his hotting hitting for a few more weeks (12 hits his last 10 games).
K-BAD (12 team mixed): I tried to add Brad Miller but was outbid ($14 to $26). I tried to add Mark Melancon but was outbid ($381 to $52). I did add Brett Wallace ($6) and Edwin Jackson ($9). Wallace has hit decently well since he was recalled batting .267 with five homers in 22 games. I know, not very good at all. I feel a lot better about the Jackson who finally seems to have turned the corner on his 2013 effort. EJax has a 2.51 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over his last five outings. Yeah, look him up if he’s still on the wire.
Notable bids: Mark Melancon ($381), Ian Kennedy ($70), Brad Miller ($26), Nate Schierholtz ($10), Rajai Davis ($6), Mike Pelfrey ($6), A.J. Ellis ($5), Scott Kazmir ($4)
FANBALL (13 team mixed): Martin Perez is on his way out as I added Wei-Yin Chen ($1) who has pitched very well this season. Free agents can be kept next season at 15th round value so there’s a chance, a small one, that Chen could be kept. I also dropped Hudson who is out for the season in favor of Jackson.
Notable bids: Mark Melancon ($34), Brad Ziegler ($13), Junior Lake ($4), Vernon Wells ($1)
